THE SIMPSONS COULD WIN AN OSCAR

It is very difficult if not impossible for most people to see every movie in every category that is nominated for an Academy Award. Some theaters now have mini festivals where they show the short docs, film shorts and animated shorts. So in my attempt to find a way to see them all I am posting the short list of Best Animated Shorts and where you might find at least a few of them. This could be the year that The Simpsons win their first Oscar.

The Short Films and Feature Animation Branch Reviewing Committee viewed 56 contenders to shorten the list of Best Animated Shorts to 10. . Members of the branch will attend screenings of the shorts and will come up with 5 nominations to be announced along with all the Oscar nominations on Jan. 10.

It is often difficult to see these animated shorts, but some of them are currently play in theaters before a showing of a full feature animated film. Here is a list of the 10 nominees and where you can see a few of them:

*The front-runner is MAGGIE SIMPSON IN THE LONGEST DAYCARE. It was seen before ICE AGE CONTINENTAL DRIFT and will be included in the The Simpsons: The Complete 23rd Season box set.

*PAPERMAN from the Disney studio. It screened before the animated feature “Wreck-It Ralph.”

*ADAM AND THE DOG- a hand-drawn animated short about the relationship between a man and his dog.

*COMBUSTIBLE- The film’s design is based on traditional Japanese paintings.

*DRIPPED- is an homage to Jackson Pollack, this 2-D and 3-D short is about a thief with a hunger for great art.

*THE EAGLEMAN STAG- is stop-motion animation about an entomologist obsessed with time. It won the 2011 BAFTA Award.

*THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER -an Edgar Allan Poe story.

*FRESH GUACAMOLE- includes stop-motion animation turning objects into guacamole.

*HEAD OVER HEALS

*TRAM
