EFFECTS OF OSCAR DATE CHANGES

“In an effort to provide members and the public a longer period of time to see the nominated films, the Academy will reveal the 85th Academy Awards nominations on January 10, five days earlier than previously announced.”

It will give those of us who like to see all of the nominated movies more time to see them before February 24th, but those five days are also causing a stir with Oscar voters. They now will have less time to see all of eligible nominees. It has always been a problem for smaller movies to get attention when an Academy member receives hundreds of screeners to watch before they choose their favorites. I am sure there are a few who make an effort to watch every single one, but most have to rifle through the pile and pick what they want to watch. They probably pick the movies that already have Oscar buzz or movies that they can watch with their families. Voting ends January 3rd right after the Holidays when many are traveling and just too busy to watch hours and hours of movies. The number of eligible movies that they actually watch will be significantly less this year.

The Golden Globes will now be held after the Oscar nominations are announced. The Globes had previously given Actors an opportunity to get the Oscar voters attention with win and a good speech, but this year it doesn’t matter what happens. The Golden Globe awards are on January 13th.

This will be a tough year to predict with many of the precursor awards happening after Oscar nominations are already in.

  1. Am looking for flenanl fabric that has barnyard animals, horses, ducks, and chickens and pigs (three separate fabrics)caricatures. I purchases some at the Mancuso show in Manchester, NH in August and need more. Many thanks.
