The National Board of Review, a group of film academics, students and professionals founded in 1909.

ZERO DARK THIRTY continued it’s momentum by winning the NBR award for best film. It is now becoming this years front-runner for Best Picture.
The film won three awards Wednesday, which also named Katherine Bigelow best director and Jessica Chastain best actress.
SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK also received some love. Bradley Cooper was named best actor and Director David O’ Russell was given best adapted screenplay.

Best Supporting Actress: Ann Dowd, COMPLIANCE

Best Original Screenplay: Rian Johnson, LOOPER

Best Adapted Screenplay: David O. Russell, SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK

Best Animated Feature: WRECK-IT RALPH

Special Achievement in Filmmaking: Ben Affleck, ARGO

Breakthrough Actor: Tom Holland, THE IMPOSSIBLE

Breakthrough Actress: Quvenzhané Wallis, BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD

Best Directorial Debut: Benh Zeitlin, BEASTS OF THE SOUTHERN WILD

Best Foreign Language Film: AMOUR

Best Documentary: SEARCHING FOR SUGARMAN

William K. Everson Film History Award: 50 YEARS OF BOND FILMS

Best Ensemble: LES MISÉRABLES

Spotlight Award: John Goodman (ARGO, FLIGHT, PARANORMAN, TROUBLE WITH THE CURVE)

NBR Freedom of Expression Award: CENTRAL PARK FIVE

NBR Freedom of Expression Award: PROMISED LAND

 

The NBR has not had much luck lately choosing winners that went on to win the Oscar for best picture. Last year they awarded HUGO and THE ARTIST won the Oscar. The year before they chose THE SOCIAL NETWORK and of course THE KINGS SPEECH wan the Oscar.
