TORONTO FILM FESTIVAL

The Toronto Film Festival runs Sept. 5-15. It is known to launch movies into the Oscar race. Last years Best Picture winner ARGO had its premiere at Toronto and THE KINGS SPEECH the year before.

THE FIFTH ESTATE will open the festival.  It stars Benedict Cumberbach as WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Opens October 18th.

 

 

16 Galas were announced with a screening of AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY. With Meryl Streep (already a Best Actress contender) and Julia Roberts.

 

 

Also premiering will be Matthew McConaughey as a man who fights his HIV diagnosis by creating medications himself. You may have seen pictures of a very thin McConaughey during the making of this film. Fresh from great preformances in MUD, MAGIC MIKE and BERNIE, this could be his first Best Actor nom.

Also set to premiere is Steve McQueen’s slavery tale 12 YEARS OF SLAVE.

 

 

Ron Howard’s Formula racing movie RUSH.

 

 

Two films with actors last performances will also be shown. ENOUGH SAID with James Gandolfini reportedly , ALL THE WRONG REASON which co-stars the late ” Cory Monteith.

 

 

GRAVITY which is opening the Venice Film Festival, will also play at Toronto. Comic-Con was a buzz last week after an exclusive extended clip was shown.
