A few media outlets are reporting that Martin Scorsese’s WOLF OF WALL STREET will not be released November 14th or possibly this year.
A couple of reasons are floating around:
1. It clocks in at 3 hours and Scorsese is being pressured to cut down to 2 hours. That is a lot to cut from a film and will completely change Scorsese’s vision of what he wants. (Shorter films mean theaters can add more showings)
2. Scorsese is still editing because it is not where HE wants it to be.
The clock is ticking and moving it to next year, could be the kiss of death. In 2009 Scorsese’s SHUTTER ISLAND was originally set to be released October 9, 2009 and an awards contender. It was delayed until February 19, 2010. It turned out to be one of the most underrated films of the year and completely forgotten by awards time. Poor Leonardo DiCaprio. First SHUTTER ISLAND was delayed in 2009, THE GREAT GATSBY was moved from 2012 to 2013 and now THE WOLF OF WALL STREET. Maybe he is not meant to win an Oscar trophy.
