MUD IS FIRST SCREENER OF THE SEASON

Mud

MUD was the first screener sent to academy members this year.  Roadside Attractions is hoping that early delivery will help MUD gain Oscar momentum.  Last year the Weinstein Company tried this tactic with THE INTOUCHABLES, but came up empty.  But, it did work for Sony Pictures Classics in 2008 with FROZEN RIVER, which went on to get nominations for Best Actress (Melissa Leo) and Best Original Screenplay.  A BETTER LIFE in 2011 was the first screener out and Demian Bechir received a Best Actor nomination.

MUD is a coming-of-age drama film written and directed by Jeff Nichols. The film stars Matthew McConaughey, Tye Sheridan, Sam Shepard, and Reese Witherspoon. The film competed for the Palme d’Or at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. (IMDB)

McConaughey is more likely to get a nomination for DALLAS BUYERS CLUB than MUD, but this performance will help his cause. MUD was released in April and made a respectable $21.6 million. It is now available on DVD and I highly recommend you check it out.
