INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARD NOMINEES

independent-spirit award logo

As each precursor nominees are announced, we get a better look at how the Oscar race MIGHT shape up. The Independent Spirit Awards award smaller films that may not have to budget to campaign for an Oscar. Although the line between independent and major films is blurred a bit. FRUITVALE STATION is an independent movie. 12 YEARS A SLAVE, not so much. Either way it is good to see movies that are not necessarily on the Oscar radar still get recognition. Like SPRING BREAKERS.

Winners for the Indie Spirit Awards will be announced Saturday, March 1, 2014 in Santa Monica and will air later that evening on IFC at 10 p.m. PST/EST. Actor/comedian Patton Oswalt will host the awards ceremony.
