Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd have been chosen to produce the 89th Academy Awards. They have never produced an Oscars show, but they did co-chair the PGA Awards in January. I guess that gives them some experience with an awards show.
Deluca told The Hollywood Reporter that he has learned to Get it done in as short amount of time as possible, have as many laughs as possible, have as much glamour and Hollywood style as possible, and let people have a good time. In and out. Nobody gets hurt. Just fun.
They both said that after producing the PGA Awards, they got the bug to do the Oscars. They said that they were not shy in letting them know we were interested. Deluca added, Jennifer and I have been friends for 25 years and have talked about it for decades. We used to have viewing parties to watch the Oscars with a bunch of friends. Since we’re producers, we’d talk about what we would do. So it’s been in our heads for over 20 years, but we started our campaign to be considered after the PGA Awards.
Their first order of business is to find a host. Jimmy Kimmel was rumored to be the frontrunner, but is now apparently out of the running.
The Oscars take place February 26, 2017.
Who would you like to see host this years Oscars?
