One of the last remaining Oscar contenders that hasn’t been seen is Silience. Directed by Martin Scorsese, Silence tells the story of two Christian missionaries (Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver) who face the ultimate test of faith when they travel to Japan in search of their missing mentor (Liam Neeson) – at a time when Christianity was outlawed and their presence forbidden. The celebrated director’s 28-year journey to bring Shusaku Endo’s 1966 acclaimed novel to life.

Silence will not be released until December 23rd. The late release date could help or hurt its Oscar chances. It does not have time to build the  momentum that a festival run can do. In turn, the late date can help keep it fresh in the voters mind come Oscar time.

The first trailer will be released this weekend and we now have a poster to look at.
