This coming week will give us our first look at what the critics and other guilds have chosen as their best of the year. The Gotham Awards have always been first. They honor independent films more than anything so don’t expect the winners to translate too much into Oscar nominations.
The Critics Choice moved their nominations up to December 1st for the first time ever to be announced the same day as the New York Film Critics. When the Critics Choice announced later they tended to fall in line with most of the other critics groups. They will be flying blind this year so expect some surprises.
Here are the dates of the upcoming Critics and guild nominations:
November 28-Gotham Awards
November 29-National Board of Review
December 1-Critics Choice nominations
December 1-New York Film Critics nominations
December 4-Los Angeles Film Critics
December 8-AFI Top Ten
December 11- Critics Choice Awards
December 12-Golden Globe nominations
December 14th-SAG Award nominations
January 4th-WGA nominations
All of the nominations and winners will be announced here as they come in. Let the race begin.
