Critics’ Choice Awards Winners


The Critics’ Choice Awards were handed out by the Broadcast Film Critics Association on Thursday night. They could be a preview of the Academy Awards. These Critics’ Choice have a reputation as one of the importanct awards to win leading up to the Oscars. The 300 plus members of the BFCA have chosen 13 of the last 22 Best Picture Oscar winners. They also chose 17 eventual academy winners for Best Directot and 15 Best Actor, 12 Best Actress, 12 Supporting Actor and 15 Supporting Actress winners.

The Critics’ Choice Awards categories have six nominees, giving them a better channce at picking eventual Oscar winners.

The Shape of Water led the charge whith four awards, including Picture and Best Director (Guillermo del Toro). The Golden Globe pick for Best Drama, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, won Best Ensemble at the Critics’ Choice Awards. Frances McDormand and Sam Rockwell won both the Globe and the Critics’ Choice and greatly increasing their Oscar odds. Lady Bird had 8 nominations, but was completely shut out of any wins.
